Working for Suomenlinna for 100 Years

We have been working for the benefit of Suomenlinna for a hundred years, cherishing and sharing our valuable cultural heritage. Emphasizing the history and significance of Suomenlinna is our core mission, and we do it with pride and joy. The sensitive and valuable environment of the World Heritage Site provides the framework where every action is carried out thoughtfully and responsibly. We aim to preserve the cultural environment of the fortress, the nature of the islands, and the surrounding Baltic Sea.

Sustainable Development

We are committed to following the Sustainable Tourism Strategy for Suomenlinna as well as the National World Heritage Strategy in our operations. Additionally, we have accomplished the Sustainable Travel Finland certification, the Ekokompassi environmental system certification, and the Q1000 Quality Tonne certification. We adhere to the principles of sustainable development and responsible operation in all our activities.

In our operations, we emphasize our communicative responsibility in protecting our environment. We guide, present, and direct Suomenlinna visitors to respect their environment by informing them and providing them with unique experiences surrounded by history, nature, and the built cultural environment.

We also strive for responsible actions in our own operations and aim to reduce environmental impact. We make ecological and responsible choices in our premises, which help us preserve Suomenlinna.

Guidelines for Safer Space

We follow the United Nations’ guidelines on safer space principles both among our staff and in customer service situations.

We respect each other’s personal, physical, and mental space and autonomy. We do not touch others without asking and request space for ourselves when needed.

We do not ridicule, mock, belittle, exclude, or embarrass anyone in our speech, behavior, or actions. We refrain from appearance judgment, gossip, and perpetuating stereotypes.

We do not make assumptions based on appearance or behavior. We do not assume anyone’s sexuality, gender, nationality, ethnicity, religion, values, socioeconomic background, health, or ability.

We give space and strive to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to participate in the conversation. We do not override others’ opinions and give them the floor. We also respect others’ privacy and handle sensitive topics respectfully.

We listen and learn. We accept new topics, people, and perspectives with an open mind. We view every encounter and situation as an opportunity to learn and grow.
